I said in my alarm, "All men are Liars." (Psalm 116:11)
Lying is one of those universal sins. Everyone, with the exception of Jesus, has lied. People lie so frequently that often they don't even realize they are lying. In addition to "bold face lies", there are so called "little white lies", exaggerations, faux compliments, hypocrisy, deceptions, defamation, false advertising, and "fake news". Some professional liars have turned lying into an art form. I think they are called "politicians".
Of course the most blatant, frequent and destructive lies are about the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ; Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? (1 John 2:22a) There are false converts who are lying to themselves, as well as, to others about their faith in Christ Jesus; The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar and the truth is not in him. (1 John 2:4)
Lying, like all sins, comes naturally to unbelievers who are children of the devil; You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (John 8:44)
Believers, as children of God, have a new nature motived by love for God and others. We who know Him and His truth, should never lie, but always speak the truth to the glory of God; I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth. (3 John 4)
