A Fundamental Lie

The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; Who can understand it? (Jeremiah 17:9)
There are foundational truths, as well as, foundational lies. An example of foundational truth is that the Bible is the Word of God and that Jesus Christ is both fully God and fully man, the Son of the living God. This truth is foundational for our understanding and faith in the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ; He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:15, 16)
Satan is a master purveyor of foundational lies; ...Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (John 8:44b) One of his foundational lies is that man is, by nature, basically good. The truth, of course, is that man is, by nature, basically bad; There is none righteous, not even one; there is none who understands, there is none who seeks for God; All have turned aside, together they have become useless; There is none who does good, there is not even one. (Romans 3:10-12)
Those who believe this foundational lie, build a distorted world view that misunderstands the causes, consequences and coming judgment of sin and denies the only true remedy which is faith alone in the finished work of Jesus Christ alone; For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
Those who hold this distorted world view are busy trying to justify and save themselves and justify this hopelessly corrupted and dying world, apart from God. Because they have chosen to deny Him, God has given them over to their depraved, sinful natures; And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper. (Romans 1:28)
Only God knows and understands our heart and will judge us in righteousness and truth; I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give to each man according to his ways, according to the results of his deeds. (Jeremiah 17:10)
