The king's heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He wishes. (Proverbs 21:1)
As we enter into another political season when we will elect the next President of the United States and other government officials, it is comforting to be reminded that God alone is sovereign, even over elections. And the Bible says that God also sovereignly directs those who govern us; The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.
(Proverbs 16:9)
Does that mean that it really doesn't matter if we vote? Along with every material blessing we receive, as well as, the talents, skills and opportunities that God gives us, we have a responsibility before Him to be faithful stewards; In this case, moreover, it is required of stewards that one be found trustworthy. (1 Corinthians 4:2) The Lord has given us, as American citizens, the rare opportunity and privilege of participating in the selection of our governing authorities. This is not the case in most of the world. So I will prayerfully and, hopefully, wisely vote as a faithful Christian steward.
By the way, my responsibility as a faithful Christian steward would be the same if I live in Iran today or back in first century Rome, although certainly with much more persecution and suffering. No one chooses when or where they are born. Thank God for all of your many blessings, including the blessing of living in a country where we still can, at least today, openly worship the living God and proclaim the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Maranatha!
