The Destruction of Fortresses

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every though captive to the obedience of Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:3-5)
Like the Apostle Paul, all Christians are soldiers in a spiritual war constantly fighting against the false doctrines that distort the true knowledge of God and the gospel of Christ. This is a spiritual war and our weapons and armor are spiritual, divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.
Our only weapon is the word of God-- the Bible. God's word is truth and His word alone is powerful for the destruction of the fortresses of lies that protect unbelievers from the truth. The vast majority of people in the world are hiding in these fortresses from the true knowledge of God. They are ignorant of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Being insulated from the truth, they are spiritually dead in their sins and if their protective fortresses are not penetrated, they will suffer in an eternal hell forever separated from God.
What are these spiritual fortresses? Their names include Roman Catholicism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Mormonism, Jehovah Witnesses, Judaism, most of the "mainline" denomination churches, and other false religious organizations, even many of the so called "evangelical" churches. These religious organizations promote the deceptive false doctrines of Satan, misrepresenting and distorting the word of God and allowing people to be comfortable in their ignorance of God and His word. If one is to come to the knowledge of God, hear the gospel of Christ and be saved, he must first be freed from the protection of his comfortable religious fortress of ignorance.
False religion is a most formidable fortress shielding people from the true knowledge of God and the pure gospel of Christ. As Christian soldiers we are called, as Paul was, to expose the false doctrines and to destroy the fortresses of false religion in all its forms. How do we do this? By living, teaching and preaching the truth of God's word to everyone who will listen. In so doing we will destroy the ignorant speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God. And the truth of God's word and His gospel will take every though captive to the obedience of Christ. When a person's false religious fortress is finally destroyed and their thoughts are taken captive to the obedience of Christ, they are freed to hear and believe the truth of the gospel and to be saved; and you will know the truth and the truth will make you free.
