Who is a Child of God?

By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious...
(1 John 3:10a)
"There may be said to be two classes of people in the world; those who divide the people of the world into two classes, and those who do not." (Robert Benchley 1920)
Well, alright then... put me down as one of those who divides people into two classes. The Bible tells us that everyone is either a child of God, has spiritual life, and will spend eternity in heaven with God or that they are a child of the devil, spiritually dead, and will spend eternity in hell separated from God. The Bible also tells us that there are few people who are really children of God; For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it. (Matthew 7:14)
There are many political, cultural, and religious organizations, some with reasonably good social justice ideologies and doctrines, seeking our attention, time, and resources. The devil, deceitfully, but very effectively, often uses passionate allegiance to these organizations to distract people from what really matters. The reality is that when we die and stand before the Lord in judgment, and we all will, whether we are a child of God or a child of the devil is all that will really matter. And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment. (Hebrews 9:27)
Each of us are in one of two groups, either a child of God who knows and loves the Lord Jesus Christ or a child of the devil; And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved. (Acts 4:12)
