Our Faith is in God

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1)
This week, millions of people will board airplanes with faith and hope in the mechanical integrity of the airplane and the skill of the pilots. 99.98% of the time, their faith and hope is well placed and rewarded with an uneventful and safe flight. I have heard Pilots say, "Piloting airplanes is hours and hours of boredom interrupted by moments of sheer terror!" In my past business life, I flew a lot, but confess I still get a little nervous every time I board a plane.
Assurance of faith depends upon the object of our faith and the object of our Christian faith is the God of the Bible. Our faith is built upon and sustained by God's character, God's faithfulness, God's promises and God's sovereignty; For we walk by faith, not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7)
Unlike everyone else, God's character is impeccable, consistent and totally righteous. He is always faithful, even when we are not. He always keeps His promises because it is impossible for Him to lie. He alone is omniscient (Knowing and seeing everything) and He is omnipotent (all powerful). God is sovereign, meaning that everyone, everything, and ever circumstance is subject to His sovereign will and control. Nothing ever happens by chance; Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5)
