Your Words Matter

Let no unwholesome word proceed from you mouth, but only such a word as is good for the edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. (Ephesians 4:29)
It is important to remember that your words matter. What you say to others and, equally important, what you may fail to say, matters; Like apples of gold in settings of silver is a word spoken in right circumstances. (Proverbs 25:11)
Our words can greatly encourage, edify and bless others. Or they can greatly discourage, tear down, and curse others. The Apostle James puts it this way; With it (the tongue) we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God; from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be this way. (James 3:9, 10)
Of course, sometimes, it may be best to not say anything. Remember the wisdom our parents and teachers taught us when we were children; "Think before you speak."; "Choose your words carefully."; and "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." Our tongues our like power tools, with them we can do much good, including telling others about Jesus. On the other hand, if we are careless in our speech, we can do much harm to others, even damaging the name of our Lord; So the tongue is a small part of the body, and yet it boasts of great things. (James 3:5)
