The burden of the word of the Lord concerning Israel. Thus declares the Lord who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him, "Behold, I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that causes reeling to all the peoples around; and when the siege is against Jerusalem, it will also be against Judah. It will come about in that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will be severely injured. And all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it." (Zechariah 12:1-3)
I have been asked, "Is the United States of America (USA) mentioned in biblical end times prophecies?" This question is usually asked because of the USA's long standing political, financial and military support of Israel. There are some Bible teachers who speculate that Revelation 12:14 pictures the USA rescuing and protecting the Jews during the great tribulation period which follows the rapture of the Church; But the two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman (Israel), so that she could fly into the wilderness to her place, where she was nourished for a time and times and half a time (three and a half years), from the presence of the serpent (Satan). The eagle is said to be symbolic of the USA.
However, it is unlikely that this verse is referencing the USA. Most probably this prophecy talks about God's supernatural protection of Israel, His chosen people. Furthermore, the Bible clearly states that in the last days every nation on earth, including the USA if the nation is even still relevant, will turn against Israel; And all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it.
It can be rather foolish to speculate about future things when the Bible does not give us clear knowledge and understanding... But here I go anyway! If the rapture of the Church were to happen soon (which would not surprise me), I suspect that in the USA, like in all the nations, there would be complete chaos. There will be only unbelievers left on the earth who will be haters of God and Israel. It is also possible that the USA will become an impotent and irrelevant nation following the devastation that will happen during the early years of the tribulation.
This we can be sure of; God will indeed protect and sustain His chosen people. The nation of Israel can expect to be abandoned by every nation and suffer many things until the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. But God will never abandon His people and He will keep every promise made to Israel. Forget the speculations, including mine; Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5) Maranatha!
