And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)
As Christians, we believe that God is sovereign and that He orchestrates every event in our lives. Nothing happens randomly or by chance. Now I don't claim to understand this, but I do know that God is working all things together for my good; For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:9)
We are comforted by Romans 8:28 when unexpected and unexplained trials, failures and other hard things come our way. But we ought to also be sensitive to God's sovereignty and His great love for us in everything, even the little things that we too often take for granted. When someone does something nice for you or just says a kind word to you, do you understand that God knew you needed that encouragement? When you experience a beautiful sunset, enjoy a good meal, get a good night's sleep and wake-up feeling rested, do you realize that it is all a blessing from our sovereign Lord?
Really believing that God causes all things to work together for good is an expression of trust and faith in Him; And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6)
Today, try staying aware of and sensitive to God's loving sovereignty in your life, even in the little things. And tonight you will have much to praise and thank Him for. Maranatha!
