Buy truth, and do not sell it, get wisdom and instruction and understanding. (Proverbs 23:23)
What are your most valuable possessions? Money or other material assets certainly have some value, although limited and temporal. Obviously the gospel and eternal life are invaluable possessions. Our time is certainly of great value, especially as we get older and realize that we have less of it each passing day.
Solomon commends to us the great and eternal value of truth, wisdom, instruction and understanding. This is not worldly truth or worldly wisdom that James tells us is earthly, natural, demonic(James 3:15) or the foolish human wisdom that rejects God's truth; Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? (1 Corinthians 1:20)
We ought to diligently and continually seek as much godly truth, wisdom, instruction and understanding as we possibly can obtain. And never let go of these most precious possessions. Where can we find these most valuable assets? In the Bible, God's eternal word; How blessed are those who observe His testimonies, who seek Him with all their heart. (Psalm 119:2) From Your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalm 119:104-105) The sum of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting. (Psalm 119:160)
