Home with the Lord

Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord--- for we walk by faith, not by sight--- we are of good courage, I say, and prefer to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord. (2 Corinthians 5:6-8)

As born again Christians, we have God's promise of eternal life. Yes, we may die physically, which simply means that our spirit leaves our dead physical body; For the body without the spirit is dead... (James 3:26). But immediately our living, eternal spirit is at home in paradise with the Lord; And He said to him, "Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in paradise." (Luke 23:43)

Like the Apostle Paul, I am really looking forward to going home to our Lord, at physical death or, even better, at the rapture of the Church. "Some day you will read in the papers that D.L. Moody, of East Northfield, is dead. Don't you believe a word of it! At that moment I shall be more alive than I am now. I shall have gone up higher, that is all; out of this old clay tenement into a house that is immortal--- a body that death cannot touch; that sin cannot taint; a body fashioned like unto His glorious body." (Dwight L. Moody 1837-1899)

But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, "O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?" The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! (1 Corinthians 15:54-57)
