Deceitful and Desperately Sick

By George Stroh

June 1, 2020

The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; Who can understand it? (Jeremiah 17:9)

As I write this, there is mass rioting and mob violence happening in cities across America. This growing civil unrest and criminal acts are expected to continue with little hope for peace and a return to normalcy anytime soon.

Many so called experts offer various explanations for why this is all happening. Usually we are told its because of pent-up frustration and anger caused by racial and other social injustice,

No doubt that there is much racial and other social injustice in this world. But, according to the Bible, the root cause is our unrighteous, godless, sinful nature; As it is written, there is none righteous, not even one. There is none who understands, there is none who seeks for God; All have turned aside, together they have become useless; There is none who does good, there is not even one. (Romans 3:10-12)

There is no lasting cure for a sick patient without a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. Everyone of us are born with desperately sick hearts. Not everyone, of course, manifests the same kind and magnitude of sins. But everyone is born a sinner and the penalty for any sin (any action, word or thought contrary to God's will or His word) is death. Not just physical death, but spiritual death--- Eternal separation from God in a literal hell; For the wages of sin is death. (Romans 6:23a)

The good news (the gospel) is that Jesus Christ has already paid for our sins. If we will repent, trust in Him alone and His finished sacrifice for us, and humbly accept, by faith alone, this free gift from God, we will receive forgiveness for our sins and eternal life with Him in heaven; But the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Bible tells us that things are going to get much worse on earth and that God's ultimate judgment is coming; I, the Lord search the heart, I test the mind, even to give to each man according to his ways, according to the results of his deeds. (Jeremiah 17:10) I encourage you to warn your unbelieving friends and family about this coming ultimate judgment and then share the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, the free gift of God. Maranatha!
