Holy is His Name
June 12, 2017
By George Stroh

Guard your steps as you go to the house of God and draw near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of  fools; for they do not know they are doing evil. (Ecclesiastes 5:1)

What is your attitude toward God? Do you understand and appreciate His ultimate, superior holiness? For the Mighty One has done great things for me; And holy is His name. (Luke 1:49)

The attitude of the vast majority of people reject, deny or ignore His holiness, treating God as their equal or less. There are also the self-righteous, religious folks who profess to believe in the holy God of the Bible, but, like Cane, want to worship Him on their own sinful terms, offering the sacrifice of fools. Someone has well said, "God created man in His own image and man has returned the favor, creating God in his own image!"

Rejecting His holiness, superiority and majesty, even many so-called Christians seem to have a too casual and disrespectful attitude toward God. It is true that Jesus has called us His friend; You are My friends if you do what I command you.(John 15:14) God does love us and invites us to draw near to Him. But when we come to God, we ought to come humbly and respectfully, acknowledging His holiness and ready to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools.

We are reminded of when God confronted Job; "Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?" (Job 38:2) And, to his credit, Job humbly acknowledged God's holiness; "Behold, I am insignificant; what can I reply to You? I lay my hand on my mouth." (Job 40:4) "I know that You can do all things, and that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted." (Job 42:2)
Holy is His name! Maranatha!
