Dead Man Walking

But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. (Romans 8:11)
Death row prisoners who are being led to the prison's execution chamber are said to be "dead men walking". They are still temporarily alive and walking, but soon to be dead. All of us, until justified by faith in Christ Jesus, are "dead men walking". Still temporarily alive physically, but spiritually dead (separated from God); And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. (Ephesians 2:1, 2)
Those of us who have believed in the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ may still die physically, but we are eternally alive spiritually and our mortal bodies, like our Lord's, will someday also be resurrected to eternal life with Him; But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up to Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 2:4-6)
It is good to remember that all of us were once dead in our trespasses and sins. Spiritually dead, completely helpless and without hope of eternal life. Sadly, those who are now spiritually dead will remain eternally dead in hell unless they hear and believe the saving gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ; For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God! (Ephesians 2:8)
