Make me know Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; For you I wait all the day. (Psalm 25: 4, 5)
A good friend, Bible teacher and mentor, Pastor Donald Goertzen, recently gave me some very wise advice. As Christians, political labels such as "liberal" or "conservative", "pro-life" or "pro-choice", "Republican" or "Democrat" are usually not very helpful. As a matter of fact, such labels can be contentious, a distraction and often even distort the truth of our true Christian beliefs and our witness for Christ. Instead, we should be concerned with and proclaim just what is right and what is wrong, what is true and what is false.
As Christians, we are God's representatives today on earth; Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.(2 Corinthians 5:20). And as ambassadors for Christ, we determine what is right and what is wrong, what is true and what is false by sifting everything through the perfect word of God; The sum of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting.(Psalm 119:160)
Biblical truth is not relative, it's not debatable and it is not malleable by human logic and intellect, changing cultural values or even so called "common sense". As Jesus prayed to the Father; "Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth"; (John 17:17). Maranatha!
