The god of This World
July 29, 2017
By George Stroh

And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. (2 Corinthians 4: 3,4)

It is really nothing new, but everyday there are news reports of horrendous atrocities committed in every part of the world, even here in the so called "civilized" United States of America. Torture, rape, sodomy, murder of men, women, even young children (including about 125,000 abortions everyday). Why these horrible acts of inhumanity? Don't these people have a conscience?
The bible tells us that sin is pervasive and that most people's conscience has been totally corrupted and, therefore, ineffective for guiding their decisions; As it is written, "There is none righteous, not even one; there is none who understands, there is none who seeks for God; All have turned aside, together they have become useless; There is none who does good, not even one." (Romans 3:10-12)

Unbelievers, those who have not believed the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, have a corrupted, ineffective conscience that is no longer sensitive to God's true righteousness because they suppress the truth in unrighteousness. (Romans 1:18) Furthermore, these unbelievers have unwittingly submitted to Satan, the god of this world who has blinded the minds of the unbelieving.

The bible tells us that we are all guilty before the Lord who will judge each one according to his or her deeds and that there will be severe consequences for every unbeliever; For the wages of sin is death... (Romans 6:23a) The consequences of sin is not just physical death, it is also spiritual death-- separation from God forever in a literal hell of torment; And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever; they have no rest day and night... (Revelation 14:11)

Here is the good news-- The Gospel. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came some 2,000 years ago. He died on a Roman cross to pay God's penalty for all sins. And if you will repent (change your mine), believe in Him and receive His free gift of salvation, you can have forgiveness of sins and eternal life in heaven, rather than eternal death in hell; But the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 5:23b) Maranatha!
