But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. (2 Peter 3:10)
Since August of 1975, when Linda and I first heard and believed the gospel, we have been looking for the second coming of Jesus Christ. Forty-two years later we are even more convinced that His return is eminent and we are faithfully waiting for Him to return for us!
There are those who will mock our childlike faith saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation."(2 Peter 3:4) Yes, it has been nearly two thousand years since His first coming. But as the Apostle Peter wrote; The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness... (2 Peter 3:9) Two thousand years seems like a very long time to us, but not to God who created all things, including time; But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like one day. (2 Peter 3:8)
Therefore, we remain faithful; looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God. (2 Peter 3:12) Why? Because He promised that He would someday return for us and our God always keeps His promises. Why hasn't He come back sooner? Because He is still patiently waiting for some of His chosen saints to hear, believe and be saved from coming judgment and wrath; But (God) is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9) One more question; Are you ready for Him to return? Maranatha!
