Holy Conduct and Godliness

Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness... (2 Peter 3:11)
This world, who's god is Satan, along with all its temporary pleasures, evildoers, worldly philosophies, and sinful deceitfulness, will someday be completely destroyed by the only true God; But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. (2 Peter 3:10)
As Christians who are looking forward to the second coming of our Lord and His eternal kingdom, we are to be characterized by holy conduct and godliness. That means we are to always trust and obey God, having a lifestyle consistent with His word. The late Bible teacher Warren Wiersbe wrote, "If your lifestyle contradicts the word of God, you need to either change your lifestyle or the word of God."
Someone may say, "Holy conduct and godliness" is a relative standard. Yes, and that standard is not other Christians, it is God's perfect holiness; As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, You shall be holy, for I am holy." (1 Peter 1:14,15) As Pastor Gil Rugh has said, "Immature Christians are sometimes like immature children who are told to stay out of the street and on the sidewalk and then choose to walk on the curb."
If you are a Christian, the Holy Spirit will instruct, convict and guide your holy conduct and godliness as you study the word of God; Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin. (James 4:17) But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. (James 1:22)
