Don't Love the World

Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the father is not in him. (1 John 2:15)
You have heard it said that, "He or she is too heavenly minded to be any worldly good." But the truth is that most people are too worldly minded to be any heavenly good. Christians are warned not to be seduced by and conformed to worldly desires and philosophies that are admired and encouraged in this godless world; And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:2)
We are to love the unbelievers, as God does, who sent His Son into the world that they might be saved through Him (see John 3:16-21). But we must reject their godless world view, sinful desires, and the worldly philosophies that are the result of their depraved minds; For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. (1 John 2:16)
Why love and pursue worldly things that may provide some temporary joy, rather than loving and pursuing heavenly things that please God and provide eternal joy? The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever. (1 John 2:17)
