Take a Good Look at Yourself

By George Stroh

November 9, 2020

For now we see in a mirror dimly... (1 Corinthians 13:12)

To see what you look like physically, you look at your reflection in a mirror and then you are ready to make any needed changes. To see what you look like spiritually, you need to look into the mirror of the word of God and then you are ready to make any needed changes. Sadly, most people never look intently into God's word and, therefore, don't see that they are actually spiritually dead, separated from God and His righteousness; And you were dead in your trespasses and sins. (Ephesians 2:1)

Others do look and see themselves in the mirror of God's word, but then, because they are self-deluded, distort their true spiritual condition, forgetting to make the needed changes by faith and obedience; But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. (James 1:22-23)

Unless God first opens your spiritual eyes and ears, you remain spiritually blind and deaf regarding the word of God and Christ; So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. (Romans 10:17} But believers are blessed when they not only see and hear, but also abide by God's word; But the one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does. (James 1:25)

Take a good look at yourself in the mirror of God's word and be ready to make any necessary changes.

Maranatha!
