Do not Love the World

Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. (1 John 2:15)
Satan, who is the god of this world, desires that everyone worship and serve him. He and the world offer godless philosophies, worldly wisdom, sinful sensuality, wealth, success and happiness without God. But it is all just temporary; For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever. (1 John 2:16, 17)
There is a great temptation to try to have it both ways, loving God and also loving what the world has to offer. However, Christians are NOT to love the world because whoever or whatever you love, you will serve and Jesus told us; "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth." (Matthew 6:24)
"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. This is the great and foremost commandment. " (Matthew 22:37, 38)
