Plan and Trust

Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit," Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. Instead, you ought to say, If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that." (James 4:13, 14)
Someone has said, "If you want to make God laugh, just tell Him your plans!" Making plans without understanding and appreciating that God can, and often does, have a different plan for us, is foolish; "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways," declares the Lord. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts." (Isaiah 55:8, 9)
That is not to say that making plans is wrong. Our plans are an important part of being good stewards of our time, energy and resources. After all, If you don't care where you are going, any road will get you there. Making plans and following your plans is a good thing, But know that our God is omnipotent and we our not; The mind of a man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps. (Proverbs 16:9)
All things in our life, including our best considered plans, can quickly change. This year has certainly reminded us all of that truth. Thankfully, our Lord, who loves and cares for us, has everything under His sovereign control; Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all you ways acknowledge Him , and He will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5, 6)
Maranatha!
