Following the rapture of the Church, the Bible describes a seven year period of time known as the "tribulation period". During this seven years of tribulation on earth, God will pour out His wrath on both Jews and Gentiles who have rejected the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "Unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved..." (Matthew 24:22).
I believe that China will play a major role in the tribulation represented as "the kings from the east" (see Revelation 16:12) with an army of two hundred million that are present at the battle of Armageddon. Until this present generation, no country was capable of fielding a two hundred million man army. Bible scholars typically assumed that the Apostle John's revelation must just be describing, in a general way, a very large army. Yet John was emphatic and specific about the two hundred million number; "...I heard the number of them".
Revelation 16:12 says that the great river Euphrates will be dried up for the specific purpose of allowing the armies of "the kings of the east" to move toward the final battle of Armageddon. China, which is located east of Israel, now boasts of having a two hundred million man army! In a perverse and futile attempt to try to control its growing population, the Chinese government decreed that each family can have only one child. Since the traditional Chinese culture prefers boys over girls, parents have for many years been aborting girl babies. As a result, today China has tens of millions more men than women, ironically with no women for them to marry. But then there are plenty of expendable single men available for the military.
Israel, as well as the USA and the other western nations, are currently facing another serious and imminent threat from China. They are rapidly becoming a formidable economic power and the world's banker, reminding me of the proverb; "the rich rules over the poor, And the borrower becomes the lender's slave." (Proverbs 22:7). Maybe you have heard the secular version of the "Golden Rule" that says "Those who have the gold-- rule!" China's booming economy gives it increasing world-wide political influence and provides the money to fund it's large and growing military budget.... And It certainly does take a lot money to fund their military budget!
Meanwhile, the USA and the much of the rest of the world's economies are becoming more and more dependent upon China to buy their growing debt, yet must still continue to build their own military forces to remain competitive with China. Napoleon said of the Middle Kingdom (China), "Let her sleep, for when she wakes, she will shake the world." The shaking has begun and something must soon give!
